Starting a project and finding your way around

Starting a new project. From your dashboard, New Project gives you two routes.

  • Plan it with Hamish (the Start with Compass button) walks you through the guided conversation and ends with a step-by-step build plan. This is the right route for a new idea, or any project where you want the structure thought through before anything is built.
  • I know what I want, build now (the Open Studio button) drops you into the workspace to build by describing changes directly. This is the right route when you already know exactly what you want.

Nothing about the choice is permanent. A Compass project lands in the same Studio as everything else, and a Studio project can be re-planned later.

Finding your way around. Your Dashboard sits at the top of the sidebar. Below it the sidebar is grouped into Projects (New Project, Compass, Studio), Assets (Images, APIs, Data) and Account (Settings, Support, Subscriptions). Your token balances sit at the bottom, always visible.

The Build Plan page. Every Compass project has a Build Plan page: your plan, one step at a time, run in order. Each step shows its description, its Build-token price, and its state: Queued, Building, Done or Failed. Press Run on the next step when you are ready; Studio builds it and marks it Done. The header badge in Studio shows your progress, for example "1 of 4 built".

Plan mode. While your plan still has steps to run, Studio chat switches to the plan surface: run the next step, Pause plan, or Change plan. Pausing unlocks free chat for tweaks to what is already built, and you can resume any time. The plan carries on in order, right where it left off. Changing what is still to come goes through Change plan, which reopens your Brief in Compass and re-plans only the remaining steps. If a step fails, Hamish fixes it free and the plan moves straight on, and a failed-then-fixed step costs you nothing.
