While a build runs
How long does a build take?
Most builds finish in one to three minutes. Some take longer, and that is normal: complex pages generate a lot of code. A build that is taking a while is almost always still working. The step stays marked Building until the server, not your browser, confirms the outcome, so what you see reflects what is actually happening. You can navigate elsewhere in Hamish while a build runs; it carries on without you watching.
What does "Connection interrupted" mean?
If your connection drops mid-build you will see: "Connection interrupted. Reconnecting, and your build carries on in the background. This will update when we're back." It means exactly that. The build is running on our side and does not need your browser. When the connection returns, the page updates to wherever the build has got to. You do not need to do anything, and you are never charged twice because of a connection drop.
When should I press Retry?
Retry appears only when a build has genuinely failed, confirmed by the server. If you see Retry, the step failed, any charge for it was refunded automatically, and pressing Retry starts a fresh attempt at the normal price. You will never see Retry on a build that is still running, so if it is offered, it is safe to use.
