Preview and testing

Why do I edit by chat instead of editing the code directly?

Studio is built so you direct everything by chat and see the finished, rendered result, which is what makes it fast and approachable. You are not locked in, though: on a paid plan you can export your whole app as a .zip and take the code anywhere.

Can I get the code for my app?

Yes, on a paid plan. On the app's Dashboard card, open the ... menu and choose Export as .zip. You get your app's files plus a README to host elsewhere, back up, or pass to a developer. (On the Free plan this shows as "Export: Member+".)

How do I check how my app looks on a phone?

In the Studio header, click Publish to open Publish & Test, then use Test on Mobile to get a QR code. Scan it to see the true mobile layout.

Can I use Hamish on my phone?

Yes. You can plan an app in Compass, run its first build, change it by chatting and publish it, all from your phone. A few of the wider panels still open only on a computer, and Hamish tells you which when you reach them. Your published apps work on phones as normal, and you can check your app's mobile layout any time with Test on Mobile (the QR code in the Publish panel).

My connection or AI feature does nothing in the Preview. Is it broken?

No. The Preview uses stand-in data and cannot make real outside calls or run in-app AI (the badge reads "APIs active on publish"). Those work once you publish. Build the look and flow in the Preview, then publish to test them for real.
